New Mexico teen I'm following the trial of 16 year old Cody Posey, who shot and killed his family on a New Mexico ranch owned by Sam Donaldson. The defense contends that the teen suffered from stress in his life that included sexually inappropriate conduct on the part of his parents and step-parents, including pornographic interntet activity, and that's what caused him to snap. It's a shame that nobody in that teen's life noticed any indication that something was wrong and intervened before the situation reached such a tragic and extreme level. Any time something's seriously wrong in a teenager's life, there are always indicators. Acting out, running away, drinking and drug use or hooking up with gangs, writing explicitly violent poetry or drawing violent artwork, maybe. There's always some cry for help that, if left unattended could lead to a tragic end. That's not to say the boy isn't responsible, as the defense is trying to allege. He is absolutely responsible for his own actions and must be held accountable for them. But equal responsibility should be shared with anybody who ignored the symptoms and looked the other way. | |
